It’s hard to believe the new En Gold studio in Melbourne’s Braeside was once an automotive workshop. “It would have been tricky for anyone to see through the oil-stained floors, dated tiled walls and vinyl-wrapped walls to see its potential,” says En Gold co-founder and director, Steffanie Ball.
“But when I came to view the property, I formed an instant connection with not only the space, but the owner, who had lovingly grown his business within the building for generations. He often spoke of the ‘good luck’ the property has ingrained within its walls.”
The studio is designed to be a continuation of the e-commerce interiors brand where Steffanie, together with husband and co-founder Matt Ball, can develop, photograph and display En Gold products.
“It’s a space where we can create a touchpoint with our customers,” says Steffanie. Featuring gently textured walls, elegant archways, soft semi-sheer linen curtains and black aluminium framed partitions, the design is an intimate take on typical studio interiors. “
“The space is a calming oasis, the perfect canvas to showcase the En Gold furniture and homewares,” says Steffanie. “Staying true to the En Gold brand, the colour palette focuses on a tonal aesthetic. The overall intention was to create a creamy and soothing atmosphere that works harmoniously with the En Gold range.”
Glass bricks, polished concrete, exposed beams, architectural track lighting and warm timber inject the minimal scheme with points of interest, and robust materials are softened by the curvaceous architectural features.

A freestanding bathtub makes a striking focal point in this spa-like bathroom which is further accentuated by matte black tapware and the black window frame. A simple grey and white palette is always a winner, and here we see it used to great effect. Brass tapware adds a point of difference, and a curved walk-in shower provides easy access.

Create a day spa feeling in your bathroom with decorative finishings. Think timber-look tiles on the floor, sheer curtains at the windows, a coffee table to store all your tub-time essentials and a striking chandelier overhead. But not all lighting can be hung over a bath – check with your electrician first.
Give an old bath a new lease on life with a fresh lick of paint. The prep work is key, so make sure the surface is free of rust and grease and has been sanded back before applying a metal primer followed by an undercoat and then your top coat, all oil-based.
